Discussion Topic 3 – Java representation of decimal places

Where the precision of variables is discussed during the module units, we have always been careful to say, for example, ` about 17 decimal places'. Why can one not same exactly how many decimal places a number can be represent as in Java?

(This question is kind of technical. Don't lose too much sleep if you can't figure it out)
